Uncharted

(On the Island 1.5)

SYNOPSIS:

When twenty-three-year-old dot-com millionaire Owen Sparks walked away from his charmed life, he had one goal in mind: get as far away as possible from the people who resented his success, or had their hand out for a piece of it. A remote uncharted island halfway around the world seemed like a perfectly logical place to get away from it all.

Calia Reed wasn’t part of Owen’s plans. The beautiful British girl – on holiday in the Maldives with her brother, James – made Owen wonder if getting away from it all might be a lot more enjoyable with a carefree girl who didn’t know anything about the life he left behind.

But Owen had no idea how much his carefully detailed plans would go awry. Nor did he realize that a decision he made would have such a catastrophic effect on two passengers who boarded a plane in Chicago.

And when Owen shows up at Anna and T.J.’s door with an incredible story to tell, everyone involved will learn just how much their lives are intertwined.

MY THOUGHTS:

If asked if this novella could be read as a stand alone, I think it could be but honestly it won’t have the same impact it did if you haven’t read On The Island. So read Book 1 first.

So about On The Island… I thought it was great. It was one of the emotional reads – one of the rare ones that I’ve read more than once. There was a certain element that made it uncomfortable and I did struggle over it but in the end decided to let it go since theirs was a relationship with special circumstances.

Uncharted , I also thought was terrific  for a couple of reasons. It gave us a different persons perspective of life on the island. While T.J. and Anna’s experience was more forced onto them, Owen was there by choice. Owen’s experience I thought was more focused on the beauty of the island. A haven of sorts, while T.J. and Anna’s experience was the total opposite.

My second reason was Owen. He just was one likeable character. Here’s this young,  intelligent and wealthy guy that could have lived precariously instead he decided he’s done with it all. He was determined that he didn’t want that lifestyle and he gave it all up. He was also  organized about it, he thought of everything. With the relationship he had with his family you would think that he would just leave them empty-handed but he made sure that they were well taken care of while he was away. I also enjoyed his relationship with Calia but I won’t go into the details (don’t want to spoil it ). The best thing I loved about him… he sought T.J. and Anna out in the end.

I also loved that we got a glimpse of T.J. and Anna’s life years after their life on the island. After all that they have been through I’m glad that they are still as happy and in love as they were at the end of the first book. I can foresee them going through more challenges in the future and I’m wondering if the author has any more planned after Book 1.5.

I thought the author did a wonderful job in setting up this story. And I am grateful that everyone involved was able to find closure. Highly recommend this one.
