“I’m not just falling in love with you, Nell. I’m falling into you. You’re an ocean, and I’m falling in, drowning in the depths of who you are.”

Synopsis:

I wasn’t always in love with Colton Calloway; I was in love with his younger brother, Kyle, first. Kyle was my first one true love, my first in every way.
Then, one stormy August night, he died, and the person I was died with him.

Colton didn’t teach me how to live. He didn’t heal the pain. He didn’t make it okay. He taught me how to hurt, how to not be okay, and, eventually, how to let go.

My thoughts:

I don’t even know where to begin…I had my doubts on this one because of the last Jasinda Wilder story that I read (Wounded – click HERE for my review) but this story was so much  more than I expected. It was gut wrenching, heart warming and simply beautiful. Jasinda Wilder just hit the nail right on the head with this one.  From the very first paragraph the story drew me in.

“I know we are young. And I know most people say we’re kids, or too young to  know what love is. But screw that. I’ve known you my entire life. We have shared everything together….I don’t care what anyone else says. I love you. I’ll always love you, no matter what happens with us in the future. I love you now and forever.”

The story starts with first love. Growing up together Nell and Kyle were always “assumed” to be together forever. An innocent date invitation triggers their relationship. And everything between the two since then is just plain heartwarming. We hear about their first kiss…their first everything. You know we all can relate to this since we’ve all been there. I was just tickled pink about the teenage angst. I loved that even that young they were open to each other with their feelings and physical expectations. Just when you think that everything is perfect a freak accident happens leading into tragedy. All their hopes and dreams together are simply crushed.

“We understand each other, Nelly. We’ve both lost someone we love. We both have scars and regrets and anger. We can do this together.”

Nell strives continue living her life  but she simply can not move on. Years later she continues to blame herself for the tragedy. Unexpectedly she runs into  Kyle’s brother, Colton in NYC busking in the park. They had first met at Kyle’s funeral and even then they both knew that their was something there that couldn’t be ignored. They both try to ignore the unexplainable feelings that they both have for each other  but one thing leads to another and they finally are able to get past the guilt and the shadows of their individual past and admit what they truly feel.

“There’s no start, no stop, no him or me; there is only us, only perfection, only meshed souls and merged bodies and dizzy pleasure.”

Highly recommend this one. . I thought it was perfect! This is was just one those books where you think that “everything happens for a reason.” The music in the book was such a great accompaniment to  as well.

The only thing about the story that I would have changed?

I wish there was an epilogue. Or better yet a sequel. I would have loved to hear about Colton nd Nell’s wedding, about them beginning a family. How Colton and his father reconcile and him explaining his dyslexia to his parents.  I also imagined a whole scene where they end up visiting Kyle’s grave with their little ones. Also I wanted them to have a singing career together , think Sonny and Cher minus the bitter breakup! There are some open ends in the book… i.e. Dan. Could there possible be a book 2 ? Oh please, please!

Casting picks:

This one was easy. Just had to do research and find sibling actors and found Chris and Liam Hemsworth. For Nell, I picked Blake Lively because I love her, she’s sexy and of course she got the strawberry blond hair that Nell has.
